About Legambiente Lecco

Peculiarity of the association has been from the beginning scientific environmentalism, that is the choice to aim with every project at protecting the environment on a solid base of scientific data, an instrument that enables to take alternative routes which are concrete and achievable.

The scientific approach, combined with a stable work of information, awareness and involvement of citizens, ensured the deep roots of Legambiente in the society that makes this association the more widespread environmental organization in the Italian territory: over 115,000 members and supporters, 1,000 local groups, 30,000 classes participating in environmental education programs, more than 3,000 young people per year participating in volunteer camps, more than 60 natural areas managed directly or in partnership with other local entities.

Legambiente is a no-profit association; the activities organized by it are the result of the voluntary commitment of thousands of citizens who, with perseverance, imagination and creativity, work hard to keep the attention focused on environmental emergencies in this country.

Legambiente Lecco Onlus is the Legambiente club which operates on the Lecco area. The group was originally born in 1978 as a Environment Defense Committee and joined Legambiente in 1988.

The main aim of the group is to work at the development of sustainable and well-balanced with the environment lifestyles, whereof man is an integral part. Environmentalism is not about loving trees, but building a social path in which man can learn to live in a sustainable way within an environment that, too often, he considers something other than himself: a tool to be exploited for his own purposes without considering a non- predictable or guaranteed balance between the parties. Sustainability is no longer an option, but it is an inevitable aim which needs to be reached at every level of social discussion.

To achieve this goal we realize projects and activities that will allow our territory to progress in this direction.

We participate in the making of crucial policies of our Province, trying to have an environmentally compatible influence on them. We also produce projects of environmental sustainability, redevelopment of blighted areas, education in schools and biodiversity preservation. We also organize national and international volunteer camps in addition to the main festival of sustainability in the Lecco Province. Lastly we manage a sustainable hostel in the Monte Barro Park, to show how we can do business while still respecting the environment in which we operate.
